Does work that has a purpose even exist?

Sometime during the time I graduated from school and got my first job, 'Unmotivated' became a euphemism for 'Lazy'.

It was about the same time that 'girl' became a euphemism for 'boy', and 'boy' became a synonym with 'girl'.

But maybe there's more to 'unmotivated' than criticism of the productivity and wake-up hours of the next generation. Ikigai, that oft-quoted term (foreign words are sexy) speaks of passion, talent, and enjoyment and makes it sound like they're as easy to find as negativity on Twitter.

Elon Musk says more people should "just make stuff". There should be more people, and less people studying MBA's, and more people making stuff. "Be useful, dickhead"

Okay, I added that last one, but the truth is, Mr. Beast was extraordinarily lucky (according to what he said) to have found his passion at such a young age, and to have worked towards it with unwavering conviction.

Motivational videos and interviews with figures possessing even a miniscule amount of fame, cite passion as a primary contributor to their success. They may say something along the lines of, "Just be passionate".

Passion is scarce. It's rarer than ..., and doing something meaningful is hard, really hard. It's hard enough to be useful to your loved ones or family members, let alone being useful to the world.

Okay, so what about the other two, talent, and enjoyment?

According to this reasoning, talent is not necessarily something you enjoy. Enjoyment is not necessarily something you're talented at. (It gets complicated when one argues that enjoyment of X is derived from being good at X).

For example, I played DotA, a MOBA for years, trying to get better. I enjoyed the shit out of it, but wasn't very good. Even after years of motivated and focused practice (~2800 MMR).

And then there are things I just happen to enjoy, and also be somewhat good at, like playing piano. But no matter how much I practice, I will never have perfect pitch, or enjoy practicing scales.

What if you're not talented? Or you're talented, but not in anything 'meaningful'. e.g. you might be talented at sleeping.
