IT is a constantly evolving field with endless opportunities for growth and development. You'll never get bored because there's always something new to learn. Plus, the demand for skilled IT professionals is only going to increase in the coming years, so you'll always be in demand.
Here is why you should or should not enter this industry, starting from a list of good things to bad ones.
1. NZ has a skill shortage in IT. This means, given you're good enough, you can find a job with relative ease. This is also helpful to migrants hoping to immigrate to New Zealand for permanent residency.
2. Errors are clearly defined
In social or human sciences, errors are abstract, one thing can mean another, and a lot of time is spent thinking 'what does that mean?'
In computer science, it can be comforting to know that an error message points out the exact message. It propagates down the stack and lets you know where the error originated in bright red text. If you like dealing with binary outcomes where a solution either works or doesn't, IT is perfect. There are no elusive human emotions at play. If it works it works, if it doesn't, it doesnt.
3. Sedentary
Long hours sitting alone means your body may atrophy without proper attention.
1. Errors are clearly defined
Because errors are clearly defined, there is no compromise and it can sometimes be really frustrating. You can't ask a computer to just 'deal with it' or 'ignore it'
